Studio Console Part 6

DIY Design Studio Console/Desk

Last Friday I got my hands on the lighting for the studio desk. I’m going to go ahead with blue CCFL lights. The big advantage of them is that they give a lot of light and you can get them cheap with everything ready for connecting to a computer power supply unit which is going to be build-in anyway. Also I went down the store for a piece of plexiglass. The result is promising though there are also a few lessons learned.

The remaining rack profiles have been further delayed and are expected in week 36. So I’m continuing with the wheels and I’ll start working on the design of the console top. The wheels should make the whole desk movable in order to keep the room usage flexible. The front wheels have brakes on them in order to lock the console when at its working position. Here are the pictures…

Today a part of the 19″ rails order arrived. The rest is still in back order, but at least I can continue with the construction. If it all fits?!?!

DIY Design Studio Console/Desk

The studio console/desk no longer only exists as a design. This weekend I’ve worked on the two 19″ racks. The basic structure has been finished and needs to be prepared for initial painting. Also I still need to order the 19″ rack rails which should fit according to their specifications. Anyway, here are the pictures:

Design Studio Console/Desk

Since I’ve moved into my house I’ve been using an office desk as, office desk, producer desk and DJ booth. Not an ideal combination, not even to talk about the effort to change everything every time. Since the start I always had the plan to build a nice full featured DJ Booth. But since I’ve started to do more production work and also have been buying more gear the need for a DJ booth has been caught up by the need for a studio desk.

Ableton Live Masterclass with Ben Liebrand

Followers might have already read it at Twitter, but I was one of the Ben Liebrand Ableton Live Masterclass winners. For the people who missed it, TeachMusic had 5 giveaway tickets for the Ableton Live Masterclass with Ben Liebrand. The first 5 people who would answer the world’s toughest question (What’s the name of the mixes that made Ben Liebrand famous) would win them self a space on the guest list.

Pioneer Questionnaire

Received a survey this morning from Pioneer, looks like their product devision is looking into the development of DJ earbuds. Noting spectacular and neither unknown among DJs. Laidback Luke made it even part of his image, though he doesn’t use it as headphone replacement, which seems what Pioneer was going for in there survey.

Last Sunday OverSoft and I did a DJ 2 DJ set at the Ice Hockey Stadium Eindhoven, home of the Kemphanen. Because of some limited time for preparation I went with the CDJ-2000 setup. It just allows more flexibility at the gig while Ableton requires more work before the gig. OverSoft did nicely prepare a huge new Ableton Live set. By the way, sorry for the low quality pictures, we forgot to take real cameras.

The perfect DJ living room

I’ve always wondered if money and space aren’t an issue, how would the ideal living room of a DJ look like? Well I think this is a pretty good example in the right direction.
